European Partnership EATRIS

Well-supported infrastructures to facilitate translational research are important. CTMM is active in the EATRIS initiative.

The European Advanced Translational Research InfraStructure (EATRIS) is promoting open-access joint research infrastructures in Europe. It is also helping the Dutch government to coordinate new and existing Dutch research infrastructures in order to leverage the Netherlands' strong position in translational research within a European context.

EATRIS is part of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and actively collaborates with its biological and medical section. It is also involved in several national and international infrastructure coordination meetings that take place each year.

Because of the Netherlands' frontrunner position in medical imaging and the fact that the VU Medical Center Amsterdam is developing towards a European centre of excellence for medical hybrid imaging, the Netherlands will be a node for the EATRIS Imaging and Tracers technology area.

Guus van Dongen is Chair of the Imaging and Tracing Product Platform.

The results have to exceed what each country could have achieved on its own, making it visible with indicators such as patient outcomes, the continuing impact of major diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and the containment of healthcare costs.

If the objectives of national research programs such as CTMM and international initiatives such as EATRIS are realized, there are opportunities for Europe's economic growth.
